Language Arts 6th grade

Dear Parents and Students,

My name is Angie Niemeyer and I live in Minster. I’ve been married 41 years and raised three boys; along with those boys I am now enjoying two daughter-in-laws and eight grandchildren.

I am so excited to be teaching at NewBremen for the ninth year. In my classroom we work very hard in order to achieve all of the standards that the state of Ohio mandates. This hard work prepares your child for the future and I need your help to accomplish my goals and in essence your child’s goals for his/her success.

I will be teaching Language Arts which includes Reading, English and Writing and will need your assistance with the following:

 Reading:

  • Reading novels will be done in class and independently – if reading is a challenge for your child – take turns reading, read aloud to each other, give her/him a night off and read to your child, make predictions before you begin reading and ask questions after the material has been read.
  • Have them study the vocabulary words.

English/Writing:

  • We write in class for a couple of weeks then we review and expand the grammatical skills. Please check your child’s homework – often times I give a quiz following the homework lesson.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at school 629-2373 or at home 628-3459

Please check your child’s planner daily.

With TEAMWORK we will all accomplish our GOALS

Mrs. Niemeyer

6th Grade Letter (Flag)
The students researched the civilian salute and created a final persuasive letter.  They have sent this letter to area atheletic directors.

September 28, 2011

 Dear Athletic Director,

The New Bremen 6thgrade classes of 2018 have been researching the salute to the U.S. flag during the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance. It is a law (36 U.S.C.§301) to put your hand on your heart during the National Anthem for all that are present, although it is not an enforced law. The civilian salute is when United States citizens should put their right hand over their heart when showing respect towards the flag and military personnel. As of 2008 members in the Armed Forces and Veterans can now salute the flag out of uniform. We believe all present at a sporting event should salute the flag when the National Anthem is being played.

At our first football game of the year, our Language Art’s teacher, Mrs. Niemeyer told us to observe who was saluting the flag and who was not. Unfortunately the players and coaches were not on the field during the National Anthem. The cheerleaders used a modified salute and all of the referees did the civilian salute but did not take their hats off. Some children kept playing while some of the parents continued their conversations. Less than half of the audience did salute the flag properly by taking their hats off and putting their right hand over their heart.

We would like the message enclosed to be announced at every sporting event. We believe all present at a sporting event should properly by law salute the flag when the National Anthem is being played.

 Thank You for your timeJ

                                                                     Sincerely,

                                                                     The New Bremen 6thgrade
