A Message from Superintendent, Jason Schrader

2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer break with a little vacation time during this season of outdoor activities. Planning and preparation for the 2017-2018 school year is still ongoing with summer maintenance and cleaning wrapping up soon. I am very excited to have been selected to serve as superintendent of New Bremen Schools. The last 5 years that I served as middle school principal have been very memorable, and I am looking forward to working with everyone in a different role. We are truly fortunate to have such a great school system thanks to the dedicated staff and supportive community that put in numerous hours ensuring diverse opportunities and experiences for our students. I would also like to thank Dr. Andrea Townsend for her service to New Bremen Schools and wish her the best as she moves into her new role.

These next few years will bring about several challenging but positive changes for our school district as we design, construct, and move our K-8 students into a new facility. As part of the transition plan the Board of Education decided not to fill the vacant middle school principal position created when I was hired as superintendent. We will be going to a K-8, 9-12 building configuration where Diane Kramer will become the K-8 elementary/middle school principal and Brian Pohl will be 9-12 principal. The elimination of the principal position is a cost savings measure for the district and part of a transition plan as we look forward to all K-12 students being on one campus in the future.

We recently began the preliminary construction process by completing a bond rating presentation in order to sell bonds to fund the K-8 facility project. The Board of Education decided to use “construction manager at risk” for the project delivery method. This method allows the district to retain control over the project and offers a guaranteed maximum price. The next step in the process will be to work with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to hire a construction manager at risk and architect. We hope to have the selection process completed early this fall so the design phase of the project can begin. The preconstruction planning process is expected to take about 18 months from the date the levy passed until construction begins. Information about the building project will be updated on the school website as we get closer to the design phase.

I am looking forward to the new school year and welcoming students and staff back on August 23rd. It is always an exciting time of year for me. I hope everyone enjoys the remaining days of summer vacation.

Mr. Jason Schrader
